This residential apartment, located on Berlin's Spree river, was designed by NOVONO to be classic with a twist. The space uses traditional elements such as wall molding, but allows them to do the unexpected, in some cases wrapping up the sides of the walls and continuing to the ceiling. This use of old architectural tropes in a  new way allows the space to feel both familiar and explorative.  The newly-built apartment (Neubau) feels lived in and has an material honesty which gives it its unique charm.

A circular brass window featured in the wall between the bathroom and the living room allows even the most private spaces in the apartment to have access to its beautiful water-front views.

our CONCEPT

Classic with a twist; traditional wall molding that does the unexpected, wrapping up the sides of the walls and continuing to the ceiling.

OUR PROUDEST DESIGN MOMENT:

We are very proud of our overlapping circle window which connects the incredible ensuite/wardrobe to the living room and gives the intimate area access to the incredible view of the Spree.

the BIGGEST CHALLENGE:

Making a neubea apartment feel like a chic warehouse space, warm and lived-in: exposing the cement ceiling was our way to achieve this.

The different feelings of the four seasons of the year inspired the interior design of this generously sized 360 sqm apartment located in a historically protected building in the heart of Berlin's Mitte.  Some of the building's traditional charm include its high ceilings, and elaborate crown moulding.

The client's specific need for the space to house many professional functions presented NOVONO with the challenge of connecting the professional to the private, without disturbing the scared nature of the home.

Two large living rooms are located off of the central kitchen. A hallway on the opposite side of the kitchen leads to two office spaces, two guest bathrooms and the more private guests and living quarters. A large bespoke wardrobe built for the master bedroom partitions the space into a cozy sleeping area and a spacious dressing area.

In fall 2017, NOVONO's design of a 130sqm private apartment in Dahlem concluded.  The space was designed to be a cozy and intimate nest-like home for its family of four.  Its warm colour palette and homey touches make it cozy, while custom features maximise space in the modestly-sized home. A grand piano lends the humble space an air of elegance. Custom features include many of the home's shelving units, as well as its kitchen, whose touches of warm wood make it the perfect centre of the home.

We love the way the warm wood detailing and white cabinet fronts in the kitchen complement the materials in the dining area, creating an inviting space for the family to gather and cook, central functions of the home.

THE BIGGEST CHALLENGE:

Designing the upstairs of the apartment, a small space with a slanted roof. We were able to fit in a home office, and one of the comfiest little TV dens we've designed so far.

In 2015 NOVONO's design of this five-story private home in Düsseldorf concluded. The house goes from dark to light, introducing brightness on each floor of the home, allowing for a contrast between the upper-most and lower-most floors, which happens gradually.

The home's staircase is one of its strongest design features. Its neighbouring wall displays abstract square forms which create beautiful indirect light. The staircase's millwork is a triumph of design detailing and the home's oversized timber floor-boards, give it a timeless unique charm. A collage in the music room is the product of a collaboration between NOVONO and artist friend Lizzy Courage.

"We designed the staircase for this house many different times. We knew it would be an important element since it connects the many floors of this home." The wall next to the staircase features abstract square forms which create beautiful indirect light.

In 2015, NOVONO completed its work on a 230sqm private apartment residence in Berlin.  The home, designed for a young couple is on the top floor of the building, creating pitched ceilings which take a special skill to work with.  Traditional architectural features like high skirting boards are used along with custom millwork.

The colour palette's warm and sometimes dark colours like green and navy create a cozy feel. In the kitchen and living rooms, warm greys are used with pops of yellow to create a vibrant space. The residence combines industrial elements with mid-century modern pieces in order to establish a timeless eclectic beauty.

He lives in the middle of the action.  And yet it is most common in the hotels of the world. When he is at home, he will feel like traveling. In his private suite.  Not a luxury-pomp or standard design.  But a more masculine world of detail and comfort.
